You hear the term "going vegan" tossed around a lot. From your favorite athletes to celebrities to local stores selling more and more vegan items, vegan is becoming an ever popular choice among healthy eaters.
Vegan food (consisting of only plant based products) has been around for a long time now, but continues to gain momentum due to its wide array of health benefits. A member of the vegan movement that's getting a lot of attention from Northeast Ohio residents is Helio Terra Vegan Cafe in Cleveland, OH.
Helio Terra Vegan has been serving up great vegan dishes since 2015 and is located at 619 Prospect Ave E, directly across the street of Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland. David Spotts, the owner of this exciting dining destination is often spotted keeping the lines down, preparing food, and serving drinks to many hungry customers. I was fortunate enough to get a few minutes of face time with David and talk to him about his restaurant.
When discussing the menu, David explained that the cafe has a half raw and a half cooked menu. He said the "Cashew Cheese Wrap" is a fan favorite on the half raw menu, while the "Reuben Cleveland Classic" is a staple on the half cooked menu. Both these items are sourced from local products - how cool!
I'm not a vegan, but the food was great and my favorite dish was the Cashew Cheese wrap topped off with a tropical breeze smoothie. Just like I thoroughly enjoyed the food and am not vegan, David explains the menu is great for both vegan AND non-vegan eaters. He did, however, leave us with a great tip for those first time vegan eaters, "the Creamy Rotini Baked is highly recommended."
If you're in the Cleveland Ohio area Monday through Saturday from 11AM to 8PM or Sunday 12PM to 5PM stop by and say hello to David and the team or connect with them on Facebook @helioterravegancafe
